With a Makino Turnkey, you can be assured of a smooth startup into production. At the end of the project, we guarantee you’ll have a more reliable, robust operation.

Our application engineers’ unique knowledge of Makino technology lets them optimize the machining process, yielding better cycle times and throughput, as well as safety and recovery programming. Only an expert in Makino technology would know how to achieve such results.
Doing our part to help you lower the cost of your part.
Makino application engineers are cutting part costs all over the world. The quality and originality of our engineering can be seen in hundreds and hundreds of parts: blocks and heads, transmissions, suspension components, carriers, housings, medical parts, aerospace monolithic and turbo parts, micromechanical parts, and many more. In addition to our own dedicated engineering staff, we’ve formed strategic partnerships with leading companies in material handling, tooling and fixture design.

Your Makino Turnkey Project Team
Makino establishes a project team for each Turnkey, including:
  • Project Manager
  • Application Engineering
  • Project Engineering
  • Field Service

The Makino Project Manager is with you from concept to market—from making design changes to runoff requirements, production schedules to follow-up, purchasing to invoicing.

Your Makino Turnkey

Makino Turnkey engineering assures that the process provided has been analyzed for optimum performance and value as well as documented for continued use. A Makino Turnkey is a complete engineered solution, balancing cycle time, cost and quality while keeping in mind ease of operation, ergonomics, tolerance stack ups, part flow and safety.

The Makino Turnkey includes:

  • A full print review of machined features, tolerancing, capability.
  • Tool planning. Review of potential tools, competitive quotations, tool order placement and tracking.
  • Fixture planning. Review of proper locating points, features to be machined, competitive quotations, clamping and supporting concepts, actuation concepts, fixture design and final design.
  • Processing. Our applications engineers’ recommended machining process.
  • Programming. From simple, straightforward CNC code to complete macro or CAM programming.
  • Tool setup. Assembly and setting of length and diameter of all tools.
  • Fixture setup. Coordinate determination for each position and verification of part locator positions. Verify proper mounting and connections to the machine. Verify settings for operation with the machine.
  • Vendor Selection. With customer input.
  • Clearance Checks. Weight, movement, reach, ease of setup and maintainability.
  • Inspection plan. Developed with customer.
  • Stack-up Analysis. As required.
  • Optimized Process Plan. Such as tool location in the magazine, sequence, feedrates in a given operation, and cycle times per operation.
  • Proveout/Debug. Prove positioning, speeds, feeds, tool lengths and work offsets are correct. Verify initial cutting parameters. Correct all problems for position, form or finish and meet specified tolerances.
  • Runoff. Determine process capability. Make final adjustments to meet statistical requirements. Runoff specified number of parts for inspection and evaluation.
  • Runoff at customer site. Perform tool and fixture setup. Verify programs’ validity for tools and fixtures. Perform acceptance runoff.
  • Standard Documentation. Machine documentation and listing of tool and fixture vendors. Detailed fixture drawings, detailed special tool drawings and tool assembly drawings. Processed part drawings and electronic data for tool and fixture drawings.
  • Optional Documentation. Such as tool layout, part in/part out process sheets, etc. Furnished upon request.
  • Training. Operational as well as training on the process and how it works.
  • Optional Production Support. Based on customer requirements.
